Council for Competition and Monopoly Affairs

Word From The Director

A new council contributes to the development of the national economy

The Competition and Monopoly Prevention Affairs Council was formed in March 2023 in accordance with the Competition and Monopoly Prevention Law No. 14 of 2010.

Which aims to ensure freedom of competition and prevent monopoly in the markets, because competition and preventing monopoly are important in creating an incentive to reduce cost and price and improve quality for goods and services offered in the market, which leads to encouraging the private, mixed and public sectors and developing them in support of the national economy and good flow of goods and services.

Through the Council’s program during the first phase, we hope to learn about the experiences of countries with a long history in this field and open horizons of cooperation to benefit from their experiences in training cadres on the best practices and systems in which we will take into account compatibility with the Arab councils in accordance with the Arab League Protocol and the procedures for joining the World Trade Organization.

Begin preparing a draft short-term strategy to establish the council’s infrastructure and road map, while preparing a program for a media plan to promote and spread awareness among stakeholders, partners, and the Iraqi street about the culture of competition and fair markets.

We will also proceed to conclude agreements related to developing the institutional work of the Council and advancing the application of the law in accordance with international best practices.
